In the UK, as in the rest of the world, we live in an increasingly technological society. Daily life is enriched through digital communications and the flow of information. Our jobs increasingly demand more technical expertise and knowhow. The extent and pervasive nature of technology in our society is such that it is creating an urgent and growing demand for many more technically able people to fill existing and newly created jobs, which often demand a high level of skill.

It is estimated that up to two million people are employed in the UK as technicians and skilled operatives. They are creative, committed and highly productive people, found in just about every area and walk of life, and they are largely the ‘unsung heroes' of UK's leading employers.
